Our Guides
All of our Guides are licensed and Registered Maine Guides. Our guides passed the rigorous Maine Department of Inland Fish & Wildlife (DIF&W) test. They are in Good Standing with DIF&W with many years of experience in the area. Our guides are also First Aid and CPR Certified. If you request a guide during your stay, we match you with a guide who specializes in the specific activity you’re interested in.
Wild Fox Cabins abuts Passamaquoddy Tribal Land and offers Native American guides for Spring Bear hunts and use of their protected tribal land for Deer and Moose hunts. A minimum of one month’s notice is required to coordinate one of these hunts on Tribal Lands. For open water fishing, our guide puts you in a traditional canoe for your day of fishing. Prepare a cooked shore lunch for an experience you will never forget!
Maine Guides have a longstanding tradition of excellence and expertise. Dating back to the days of President Teddy Roosevelt, when he vacationed here and fished for salmon along the west branch of the Penobscot River. We also guided other legendary figures like World War II hero Jimmy Doolittle and baseball great Ted Williams on their salmon fishing adventures on nearby West Grand Lake. Today, our guides continue to carry on the traditions of having in-depth knowledge and holding themselves to the extremely high standards our guests have come to expect.
How to pay guides or order a shore lunch?
You’ll pay your guide directly. Cash payments are the standard, guides aren’t equipped to accept credit card payments in our remote environment. Guides are paid daily. Tips are usually $25 per person, per day. If you’d like to tip your guide more for truly exceptional service, they will not argue with you!
If you catch fish, no additional charge! Every guided trip, regardless of activity, offers the shore lunch option for two, plus your guide for $35. Please be sure to let your guide know if you want a cooked shore lunch for your party at least one day in advance.
If you’re interested in loaner fishing equipment, all we ask is that you respect the gear and return it at the end of your fishing adventure. Please let your guide know at least one day before your anticipated fishing trip so he can arrange your gear and guide. Seasonal discounts for multi-day and weekly trips may be available.
